The US State Department (DOS) is in the process of requiring Non-Immigrant visa applications (on Form DS-160) to be filed at least two days before the interview for the visa. Please note that this means two business days. Weekends and holidays (for the US or the country where the DS-160 is filed) are not included.
Currently, not all US consulates are using this rule, but the majority are, and all consulates will be requiring the two days of filing before the interview in the near future. For this purpose, the term “Non-Immigrants” includes all visas with a capital letter and a number such as B-2 visitor, H-1 professional worker, L-1 intra-company transferee, F-1 students, etc.
If you are applying for a temporary visa that is issued for a specific activity, like those listed above, the two-day prior filing requirement applies to your case.
If you have questions, please see your attorney or contact David Swaim, Board Certified in US Immigration and Nationality Law ([email protected]). This is extremely important for anyone who files for a Non-Immigrant visa.
